Dolpo is situated in the western side of Nepal. It lies in Dolpa district. It is bordered in the north by China. Culture in this region is influenced by Tibet. The region is not so overpopulated. Part of this region also lies in Shey Phoksundo National Park. Many Nepalese filmmakers also shoot in this region. The east and south of Dolpa are surrounded by Dhaulagiri and Churen Himal ranges.

Lower Dolpo trek is one of the most thrilling treks situated in the western hills of Nepal. The trek provides you with adventures with nature and culture. On the way, you can view the mountain ranges, rare plants, landscapes, the Tibetan influenced village cultures. This trek is an ideal trek for the trekkers who love adventures.

This trekking route is remarkable. The lower Dolpo trek is not considered as popular as the other trekking destinations of Nepal. This trek is suitable for both experienced as well as no experienced trekkers. This district is also famous for the deepest lake of Nepal that is Shey Phoksundo Lake with an altitude of 3612m above the sea level. This trek is remote and isolated but adventurous.

The route to Lower Dolpo is not as smooth as the other trekking routes have. There are some rough tracks and at some point, the routes are erased where we will have to make a way by putting logs in between, this can be a new experience to trekkers. The routes here will pass through many small-small streams. You will be climbing upwards to the hills so you can also see the villages downwards and the snow-capped mountain ranges. The trek to Upper Dolpo is a bit expensive in comparison to the lower Dolpo. We will set up camps in most of the places and for this, we have experienced trekkers so you won’t have to face any kind of difficulties.

Day 1 :

Arrival in Kathmandu

After you arrive in TIA, our representative will be waiting for you to guide through the streets of Kathmandu and reach to your selected hotel. In the evening you can roam the local areas nearby the hotel and the heritages nearby. You can go through the maps and outlines of the trip at night. We will also be providing you the orientation for the trek in the afternoon.

Day 2 :

Exploring and sightseeing Kathmandu.

Today we can explore some of the best trails in the Kathmandu Valley; test your bikes and your gear to make sure everything is ready for the journey ahead. In 3 to 4 hours of riding, we will cover around 40km at a steady pace exploring the rural parts of the valley, single tracks, and sightseeing at some UNESCO Heritage sites and return to the hotel

Day 3 :

Flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj

After having the morning breakfast, we will take a flight to Nepalgunj which will be of an hour. Nepalgunj lies near the Indian border. Here you can see both Hindu and Muslim culture. You can visit the local temples there and taste some of the famous local dishes. You will be spending your night in the hotel of Nepalgunj.

Day 4 :

Flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal (2320m) and Trek to Dunai (2,850m)

After the morning breakfast, we will fly to Juphal which will take you around 45 minutes. During the flight, you can enjoy the view of the mountains. After you reach to Jhupal, you will hike towards Dunai for around 2 to 3 hours. We will be setting camp for the night in Dunai village. We will provide you with meals and needy things for the night.

Day 5 :

Trek from Dunai to Tarakot (2,543m)

Today we will be heading toward Tarakot, a village that is on a hillock to the south of Bheri River. Today we will be walking for 6 hours. On the way, you can see many streams, pine trees, and terrace farming by villagers. Our overnight camp will be made in the riverside below the Tarakot village. We can roam around the village in the evening and visit gompa.

Day 6 :

Trek from Tarakot to Laini (3170m)

We will leave for Laini after the morning breakfast. Today we will walk for 6 to 7 hours, following the Tarap Chu River. There is one of the popular Gompa that is Sandul Gompa at the junction of Barbung River and Tarap Chu River. After some walk, we will reach Laini which will be our overnight stay with meals.

Day 7 :

Trek from Laini to Nawarpani (3,545m)

We will start off our trek after a light breakfast. Today we have 7 hours of walk to complete. We will continue the trek following Tarap Chu River the paths here are made of steep stones. At some places, the paths disappear and we will make it on our own by putting logs. We will be spending the night in Nawarpani.

Day 8 :

Trek from Nawarpani to Do Tarap (4,090m) and Explore

Today also we will be hiking seeing the streams. We will take a walk for 8 hours. You will enjoy the way, it is full of nature and plants. When we will reach the Do Tarap village, you will be amazed by seeing the differently fashioned houses grouped in three houses each. Tarap is inhabited by few Tibetans and mostly Magars. Remaining of the day you can enjoy gathering with the locals and seeing their lifestyles and having their locally made things. Our camp will be set up in the village for the night.

Day 9 :

Trek to Numa La Base Camp (4,440m)

Today we will be walking for 7 hours. As yesterday you will be viewing streams by your side. Walking ahead we will reach the Tokyo village where we can see a monastery of the Chiba group, you can roam for some time. Then we will continue the path, the path ahead is a bit rough so you may face a bit of difficulty. Finally, we will spend our night at Numa La Base Camp with tasty meals.

Day 10 :

Cross Numa La pass (5,190m) and camp at Pelung Tang (4,465m)

Today our track goes to a steep climb all the way to top ridge of Numa La from where you can view the landscapes; the valley view and the mountain. Then a 3 hour to downhill hike will bring us to Palungtang for our night camp.

Day 11 :

Cross Baga La (5,070m) and camp Dajok Tang (4,080)

Today we have a rough day to go. We will climb up to the top of Baga La which is steeped in nature. But you won’t regret climbing after you will view the landscapes and the peaks of Kanjirowa Mountain range. After a while, we will walk downwards for 3 hours and reach Dajok Tang for our night.

Day 12 :

Trek from Dajok Tang to Ringmo (3,600m)

We will continue the steeped route today. You will be enjoying the beautiful route full of pine forest and alpine shrubs. The routes here are ups and downs. After 4 hours of walk, you will reach Ringmo and have an overnight stay.

Day 13 :

Explore Ringmo and Hike to Shey Phoksundo Lake

Early in the morning you can visit the Ringmo village and have a local breakfast. You can also visit the Tibetan Buddhist monastery of the village. You can visit the Lake which will flatter you with its beauty and enjoy your day on the lakeside. Finally, we will return to our camp and have a warm dinner with cozy sleep.

Day 14 :

Descend to Shyanta from Shey Phoksundo (2,520m)

After having the morning breakfast we will head back to Shyanta by reversing our journey. Passing through Chepka you will lovely village on the way. Finally, after 6 hours of walk, we will reach Shyanta, we will have our camp here with all the accommodations needed.

Day 15 :

Trek from Shyanta to Jhupal

Completing 6 hours walk viewing beautiful scenes on the way we will reach to Jhupal that will be the ending point of our hike. We will be staying there for the night and have our dinners.

Day 16 :

Flight to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj

We will take a flight to Nepalgunj from Jhupal. As soon as we reach Nepalgunj, we will take another flight to Kathmandu. Our representatives will drop you to your hotel from the airport and you can rest in your room or visit places nearby as per your choice.

Day 17 :

Departure from Kathmandu

Our representative of Himalaya Family Adventure will help you reach to TIA by arranging you a farewell lunch and help you at the airport to fly you back to your place. In case you want any trip in Nepal, you can inform us, we will arrange it for you as per your comfort.
