Lantang Region

The Langtang Region is one of Nepal’s most beautiful and accessible Himalayan destinations, combining spectacular mountain scenery, peaceful valleys, rich Tamang culture, ancient Buddhist traditions, and diverse natural landscapes. Located north of Kathmandu near the Nepal–Tibet border, Langtang offers an authentic Himalayan experience within a relatively short journey from the capital.
At the heart of the region lies Langtang National Park, Nepal’s first Himalayan national park and an important protected area known for its forests, alpine landscapes, glaciers, wildlife, and dramatic mountain peaks. The region is dominated by Langtang Lirung (7,245 m) and surrounded by impressive Himalayan ranges, high passes, glaciers, and beautiful mountain valleys.
The famous Langtang Valley Trek follows the Langtang River through lush forests, traditional villages, and high mountain landscapes before reaching Kyanjin Gompa, one of the major highlights of the journey. From Kyanjin, trekkers can explore the surrounding valley and enjoy spectacular views of Langtang Lirung and other snow-covered peaks.
Langtang is also an excellent destination for experiencing the traditional lifestyle and hospitality of the Tamang people. Stone-built villages, Buddhist monasteries, prayer flags, local traditions, and mountain communities create a distinctive cultural experience along the trekking routes. The Tamang Heritage Trail offers an additional opportunity to discover this rich Himalayan culture.
For travelers looking for more adventure, the Langtang Region offers several trekking options, including Langtang Valley Trek, Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, Tamang Heritage Trek, Ganja La Pass Trek, and routes connecting with Helambu. The sacred Gosaikunda Lake, located at 4,380 m, is another major attraction and an important pilgrimage destination.
