SHIVAPURI DAY HIKE: A DAY ADVENTURE TO ENJOY YOUR HEART OUT
Shivapuri Day Hike is ideal for those people touring Nepal who cannot go for more extended and higher treks. The alluring arena of Shivapuri, located at a height of 2732m northern part of Kathmandu, is the second highest hill around Kathmandu valley. It also grants a nice soothing jungle walk through the shimmering forest of Shivapuri. You can witness the natural environment, thrilling panoramic Mountain View of Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, and Gaurishankar Himal to the east. Exploring cultural villages is more pleasant which is dwelled near the source of the holy divine Bagmati River, which is a paradise for bird watchers. The excellent thing about hiking in the Shivapuri area is that various selections are provided, i.e., whether to trek for just 2-3 hours or for a whole day. If you are looking for a short and sweet hike around this area, then we can hike up to Nagi Gompa and end at Kapan Gompa.
From the lovely vicinity of Budhanilkantha, we will hike through the Shivapuri conservation area. This is the government-protected forest which has diverse wilderness in both flora and fauna. We will commence our hike from the southern boundary of the area where the army check post is situated. Nagi Gompa is situated at an altitude of 2330 m north of Kathmandu and above Budhanilkantha Temple, and is the only Monastery where the Nuns practice Buddhism, and foreigners often come for meditation. It is a sheer upward hike through the narrow and dusty path for about half an hour and a two-hour continuous uphill trek to Shivapuri. After a delicious lunch and a swing around from sometime, we take a short passage downhill trail to Kapan. We can visit the impressive Full Hari and Kapan Monasteries on the way back, then drive back by relishing the scenic place.
