Trek to Rara Lake is an indelible trek to the piece of heaven inside Nepal. This fascinating trek to Rara is located in the remote mid-western region of Nepal. It is one of the most beautiful and enthralling treks that take you to one of the largest lakes in Nepal ie. Rara Lake which lies at an altitude of 2990 meters with an area covering of 10.8km square.

It is located at Rara national park which was established in 1979 surrounded by lush, hills, forests, and snow-capped mountains. The home of Rara Lake, Rara National Park is the shelter for hundreds of rare spices and birds. You can have a look at the most beautiful animals like Musk deer, Red Panda, Ghoral, Leopard, Himalayan Black Beer, Wild Boars, and Thar. Also, get a view of more than 200 spices of birds and colorful butterflies inside this National park.

Overview

Trek to Rara Lake, Both air transport and road transport are easily available for this trek. There are many gateways to reach this destination as well. You can easily be transported from Kathmandu to Surkhet and get connected to Jumla or Mugu. This trip will take more than 48hours but you will be mesmerized to get the exotic views of landscapes and hills during your tour. Another option for you is to fly from Kathmandu to Nepaljung and Jumla airport. This option is perfect for short time trekkers where you will get exotic views of mountains and its topography of the mid-western region of Nepal.

Your trek starts from Jhumla district where you will experience the home of Nepal’s main dialect that is “Khas Bhasa”. It is also very much famous for a herb called Yarsagumba. This trail is the combination of highlands and lowlands, up and down hills, forest surrounded with beautiful flowers, clean environment, and ethnic villages. Get the panorama of the bluest water in the word and snow-capped beautiful mountains. The crystal clear view of the lake reflects the perfect view of the surrounding, mountains, and hills.

During the winter season, there is heavy rainfall on the trails to the lake blocking its way so the best seasons to trek to this area in autumn and spring. This trek starts from an urban area and ends in the rural area where you can experience rich art, culture, architecture, and culture throughout your journey. It is normally wiped off in 15-17 days and can be customized as per customer’s choice.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Kathmandu

Our tour guide will receive you from the airport and help you accommodate in a nice hotel. You can freshen up and get ready to have authentic Nepali cuisine as a dinner or lunch. Visit bars and pubs that are famous around the Thamel area and have a grateful evening with your friends or family.

Day 2
Exploring and sightseeing Kathmandu.

There are lots of things to do and see in this city. As this place is famous for its heritages, durbars, gambas, you can spend your free day in the city by roaming around buying souvenirs and having famous local foods all day. You can also buy necessary gear and types of equipment that are necessary during the treks.

Day 3
Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj (150m / 490 ft) 1hr

After having breakfast early morning our guide will help you with the air flights and company you throughout your journey. It will take approximately 45mins to reach Nepalgunj from Kathmandu and after lading, you will be accommodated in a nice hotel where you will be staying overnight. You can also roam around Nepalgunj if you like.

Day 4
Fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla (2540 / 8334 ft) 20mins and trek to Chera gaun

We will depart as early as we can after having breakfast because after landing we will have to trek to Chera gaun. On your way to Jumla, you will be blessed to witness at the majestic mountain views and hills. You will be accommodated in a tea house.

Day 5
Chera Gaun to Chalanchaur (2980m / 9777 ft) 5-6hrs

Our trek will be started from this day as we walk for 5-6 hours from Chera Gaun to reach Chalanchaur. Hike to Chalanchaur might be a little difficult task as we have to ascend upwards through forests of pine and rhododendrons. We need to cross a place called Jaljala pass (3580 meters). This pass offers you a wonderful view of Kanjiroba Himal.

Day 6
Chalanchaur to Sinja Valley (2490m / 8167 ft)

Sinja Valley is a very famous and old traditional remote valley made of ancient sculptures, carved stones, historical monuments, and temples, etc. After walking through landscapes of farm fields from Chalanchar we will reach Sinja. You can explore this place and especially if you trek this valley during the festive season you will be welcomed with traditional dancing, singing, and playing musical instruments. We stay overnight in Sinja Valley.

Day 7
Sinja to Ghorosingha (3050m / 10007 ft)

After having breakfast we leave Sinja behind and ascend our way towards Ghorosingha. By following the river stream we reach the small village of Ganja. We ascend forward towards Hima River. After having lunch we again hike forwards, the trail is moderate with an uphill climb. We stay overnight at Ghorosingha.

Day 8
Ghorosingha to Rara Lake (3050m /9876 ft) 6-7 hrs

The largest Lake in the world which is Rara Lake is our final destination. After roughly hiking for 6- 7hours we will reach our destination. The trail today is a bit difficult than before as there is steep ascent alongside Chucchemara Danda (4260meter). On reaching the top you will be mesmerized with the view of snow-capped mountains, hills, surroundings, and landscapes. We stay overnight at Charpi Village.

Day 9
Explore and day off in Rara Lake

Finally, we are at our destination admiring and capturing the view on our phones. After having early morning breakfast we go back to Rara Lake. As today is the day off at the Rara Lake, we will relax and explore the locals. You can get a magnificent view from the side of the lake like Ruma Kand peak, Malika Kand peak, and Chumchemara peak.

Day 10
Rara Lake to Pina (92440m / 8006 ft) 4-5hrs

Our trail will get easier from this day. After having morning breakfast we leave this wonderful place behind and march forward to Pina. After walking for 4-5 hours we will reach Pina. On our way, we will come across the beautiful village of Mugu, Bir Khola, and a long suspension bridge. We will stay overnight at Pina.

Day 11
Pina to Bumbra (2850m) 5-6hrs

After having our breakfast we leave this beautiful place behind and move towards Bumbra. We will have a hike downwards to cross Ghurchi Langna Pass (3480meter). We will take little steps at a time as this is the highest point of our trek. We will see beautiful prayer flags on our way before we reach the rich traditional Gurung village in Bumbra.

Day 12
Bumbra to Jumla (2540m /8334ft) 5-6hrs

We will leave Bumbra behind and move forwards to Jumla. Today is the last day for our trek where the trial is much easier and accompanied by overhanging rocks, rivers, suspension bridges, and hot spring. We can relax our body in the hot spring or we can move forward to cross Dhape Lagna pass (3619meter). After reaching Jumla we will stay overnight there.

Day 13
Fly from Jumla to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu afterward

We will board to the earliest flight as we can from Jumla to Nepalgunj. The short flight will end in no time and afterward, we will catch a flight to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj. From the International Airport, we will guide you through the hotel and you can take a day off for rest or you can explore Kathmandu city again.

Day 14
Depart Kathmandu

Farewell dinner or lunch will be given from our side. You should pack all your belongings properly before departing to your home country. Our guide will drive you to the airport and see you off.
